From Linda Kropp of the Environmental Defense Center:

“It has been almost five years since the Plains All American Pipeline spilled around 450,000 gallons of heavy crude oil onto the Gaviota Coast and into the sensitive marine habitat of the Santa Barbara Channel. The Refugio Oil Spill closed multiple State beaches, killed an unknown number of birds and marine mammals, damaged fisheries, and caused loss of public recreation. The Environmental Defense Center has been diligently participating in the Natural Resources Damage Assessment process to ensure the oil company fully restores our precious coast to pre-spill condition.

Next Wednesday, May 13th, you have the opportunity to join us and engage in this process to help ensure our coastal environment is restored. The Natural Resource Trustees, a group of seven agencies and the University of California, will host an open house at two time slots to outline the draft Refugio Beach Oil Spill Damage Assessment and Restoration Plan and then open it up to a question and answer session with attendees. During this open house, and until June 8, you can submit written comments on the plan.”
