Federal Reserve Q&A With Educators

September 28, 2023 @ 1:00 pm

Are you a student? Are you a teacher or an educator? Are you a parent? Or do you simply care about climate change? Then this event is for you.

On September 28th, the Federal Reserve is hosting a Q&A session with educators from across the country. The Fed is our central bank, and it creates the rules that our banks have to follow. This is our opportunity to submit questions directly to Fed Chair Jerome Powell, to show him the public wants him to rein in Wall Street’s reckless fossil fuel financing that puts the financial system and the economy at risk.

Climate change and the burning of fossil fuels are threatening our hard earned savings, our children’s futures and the stability of our entire financial system. It is the Fed’s job to do something about these kinds of risks. But right now it’s just letting Wall Street banks pump billions of dollars into fossil fuels every year.

To submit a question, you have to sign-up online. But you don’t have to attend if you don’t want to. What’s important is that as many of us as possible submit our questions in the days leading up to it. Because for an institution that’s meant to serve the public, the Fed too often escapes public scrutiny and democratic accountability. So we need to take every opportunity we can to hold the Fed accountable to the people it’s meant to serve.

If hundreds of us submit questions about the climate, he’ll have no choice but to answer. We’ve put together questions for you so all you have to do is copy and paste one of the questions below into this virtual registration form.
