On the first Friday of each month, Fearless Grandmothers, the Santa Barbara Sierra Club, and the Community Environmental Council (CEC) host Climate Friday from 4:30 to 5:30 pm at the CEC’s Environmental Hub, 1219 State St. On June 5th, in honor of World Ocean Day, we will focus on the ocean. RSVP here — or just show up. We’d love to meet you.
Highlighting local plans to adapt to sea level rise, Melissa Hetrick, the City of Santa Barbara’s Adaptation and Resilience Manager, will explain how the community can participate. In addition, Dan Galpern of the Climate Protection & Restoration Initiative will talk about the importance of the World Climate Treaty and actions we can take to encourage the United States to continue to honor the treaty. Plus, plans are afoot to organize statewide actions in opposition to Federal oil leases on the California coast.
On June 10th, Grandmothers will be attending an important public meeting on protecting forest lands on the Central Coast. The meeting will take place at Toad & Co, 2020 Alameda Padre Serra, 6:30 to 7:30 pm.
