UCSB Students & Grandmothers Chalk for Climate at Film Festival

On February 11 and 12, Fearless Grandmothers joined students from the UCSB Environmental Affairs Board and Sunrise Santa Barbara on the streets outside theaters during the Santa Barbara Film Festival to send messages of hope and urgency about our climate future.

Members of the public were invited to join in the chalking fun. A lot of creativity was on display, with messages like “What’s your favorite green thing? Ours is the Green New Deal!” and “Protect People and Planet, Not Profits.”

A huge hourglass image needed no words to convey the message that time is running out — we must phase out fossil fuels and rebuild our energy and social systems to protect life.
